We tend to picture wealth as one big move, like a sudden windfall or lucky break. The data on everyday savers tells a plainer story. Vanguard’s annual report tracks nearly five million workers saving for retirement through their employers. In 2025, 45 percent raised their savings rate, and the average savings rate reached an all-time high of 12.1 percent. Only 5 percent made trades during periods of market volatility.1 While volatility tests everyone’s patience, most of these savers simply kept going. Consistency, more than cleverness, seems to do the heavy lifting. Of course, every situation is different. Wherever you are right now, I’d like to hear where you’d like to go next. |
